Maybe if McConnell had passed bills when the GOP controlled both branches and the White House, you’d have a point. But they just sat around doing nothing, waited until the Dems took the house, and then uninformed voters blame the Dems for lack of progress. It was predictable but clearly effective at manipulating people. Thomas Weise was killing brown people in undeclared wars an emergency? How about assassinating US citizens without due process? Spying on US citizens? Signing legislation that would indefinitely detain US citizens without representation or even being charged with a crime? Any of those raised to the level of an emergency? Or just when the orange idiot hurts your feelings? This should have been done long ago. In the age of technology, in which our government officials can conference at any time, at any distance, the executive should have much more limited emergency powers than in the past, when secure communications and fast travel to DC were too limited for an emergency. The Executive Branch cannot be allowed free reign to govern by executive fiat by claiming an “emergency” or
“because Congress won’t do what I want”. And that’s just for starters. All powers handed over to presidents by Congress or created should be done away with. Because the next Trump will be even worse than this one. One thing tRump has done is make us aware of how much power the lazy Congress has ceded to the executive branch… this hasn’t been a problem until we had a totally ignorant narcissistic fool in the Uncle knows everything If he doesn’t know he makes stuff up really fast shirt. Now we are seeing what damage such a person can inflict on our country.
